Atlantic Climbing School’s Guide Tracking Program is designed to provide a clear pathway for young guides to progress in the American Mountain Guides Association's Rock Guide discipline.
By combining AMGA courses and certification with ACS employment, guides can complete the initial steps that ultimately lead to Rock Guide certification.
Acadia National Park is an ideal setting for a qualified guide to obtain valuable experience in the AMGA’s foundational
rock terrain categories: single pitch rock climbing instruction and multi pitch rock climbing guiding on Rock Instructor terrain.

The steps in the ACS Guide Tracking Program are:
- AMGA Single Pitch Instructor certification
- ACS TR Instructor employment
- AMGA Rock Instructor course
- ACS Lead Guide employment
- AMGA Rock Instructor certification
- ACS Supervising Guide employment
A three-to-five season stint at ACS will support a guide’s progression from entry level (AMGA Single Pitch Instructor certification), through participation in an AMGA Rock Instructor course,
to successfully obtaining AMGA Rock Instructor certification. A season as a Supervising Guide rounds out the experience.
Season One
Arrive as an AMGA Certified Single Pitch Instructor and with current WFR/CPR certifications. Work as an ACS Top Rope
Instructor.
Season Two
Arrive having completed an AMGA Rock Instructor course and with current WFR/CPR certifications. Work as an ACS Lead Guide.
Season Three
Arrive as an AMGA Certified Rock Instructor and with current WFR/CPR certifications. Work as an ACS Supervising Guide.
At this point, a guide is encouraged to consider moving on to new guiding employment in an area with more complex Rock Guide terrain and to concentrate on completing the prerequisites
for the AMGA Rock Guide course and Aspirant exam. ACS will assist employees with appropriate references and recommendations whenever possible to help them pursue this path.
